Sung-Ju Lee is a distinguished violinist, Professor Emerita of Music, Director of the Korean National Institute of Arts, and Artistic Director of the Korean Joy of Strings Chamber Ensemble. Sung-Ju Lee last served as a juror for the Jean Sibelius Violin Competition in 2015.

Sung-Ju Lee has an impressive list of accomplishments, beginning with her performance as violin soloist with the Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra at the age of just 9. Since then, she has appeared as a soloist with numerous orchestras in the United States, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Venezuela and Europe.

A graduate of the Juilliard School of Music, Lee has won international competitions including the New York, Wieniawski, Tchaikovsky and Queen Elizabeth competitions.

She has released several recordings, the first of which featured her playing Schumann’s sonatas. Since then she has recorded works by Kreisler, Bach, Vivaldi and Brahms.

Lee has served as a jury member for several violin competitions including the Seoul Dong-A, Young Tchaikovsky, Elmar Oliveira and Classic Violin Olympus International competitions. She last served as a juror for the Jean Sibelius Violin Competition in 2015.

Sung-Ju Lee is Professor Emerita of Music at the Korean National University of the Arts and, from 2020, Director of the Korean National Institute of Arts.

She is the founder and Artistic Director of the Korean Joy of Strings Chamber Ensemble since 1997.
