Jan Söderblom

Jan Söderblom is a violinist, conductor and artistic director of the Finnish Chamber Orchestra, who has also served as the 1st Concertmaster of the Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra and has collaborated with several international orchestras and opera houses as both a soloist and conductor.

Violinist and conductor Jan Söderblom is the Artistic Director of two annual music festivals and, since 2021, of the Finnish Chamber Orchestra.

In addition to his position as 1st Concertmaster of the Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra, he is a highly sought-after guest conductor, play-director and concertmaster in several Scandinavian and European orchestras. He was previously Chief Conductor of the Pori Sinfonietta (2012-2016), Artistic Director of the Lappeenranta City Orchestra (2002-2009) and Artistic Director of the ‘Music by the Sea’ Festival in Ingå, Finland until 2023.

Jan Söderblom has performed as a soloist with several orchestras including major Nordic orchestras and the Japan Philharmonic Orchestra. A passionate chamber musician, Söderblom was one of the founders of the New Helsinki Quartet in 1982.

As an opera conductor he has performed with the Royal Swedish Opera, the Norrland Opera and the Finnish National Opera. His recording of Veli-Matti Puumala’s opera Anna-Liisa was was awarded as Editor’s Choice of the Gramophone Magazine.
