Matilda Kärkkäinen has worked as a chamber pianist at the Sibelius Academy of the University of the Arts Helsinki since 2014, and since 2019 as a lecturer in the same position. Kärkkäinen studied at the Sibelius Academy under the guidance of Marita Viitasalo and Erik T. Tawaststjerna, among others. She added to her master’s studies at the Vienna Music University and the Edsberg Chamber Music Institute in Stockholm, and gave her debut recital in 2009. She completed her artistic doctoral studies in 2017.

Kärkkäinen has been successful in piano competitions in the Nordic and Baltic countries and has given the world premieres of several works, which she has also recorded on CDs and for the Finnish Broadcasting Company YLE. Kärkkäinen has performed at renowned Finnish festivals such as Kuhmo Chamber Music, Crusell Week and PianoEspoo. Kärkkäinen has performed extensively both in Finland and abroad.
